5 skin essentials for every skin type
There must be millions of skin care products across the globe which can make buying skin care confusing to say the least. Of all the skin care products available there are five main products that should form the basis of every skin care routine, regardless of your skin type.
Number 1 - Use the correct cleanser
Face cleansers are designed to remove make-up, oil, dirt, impurities, environmental pollutants that can irritate the skin. If you have oily or combination skin you may benefit from washing both morning and night. Skin which is drier may benefit from using your cleanser only in the evening and using only water to cleanse in the morning.
Number 2 - Exfoliate at least once per week
Exfoliating not only improves skin texture and tone. Skin that is not exfoliated can result in dull and dry skin from a build up of dead skin cells because as we age our skin does not naturally turnover as quickly as when we were younger. This results in more rapid visible ageing as well as the occasional breakout and blackheads.
Normal skin
A complex blend of Pumpkin Ferment Extract, fruit enzymes and Lanablue come together in Aspect Dr Lanazyme Micro Peel to gently exfoliate away lifeless skin cells. This at home treatment reveals a more radiant and youthful glow.
Dry or dehydrated skin
Osmosis MD Polish is a mild enzyme exfoliating mask with L-Lactic Acid to hydrate and CoQ10 to protect your skin. Minimising lipid removal, this exfoliator will keep your skin hydrated as well as exfoliated.
Number 3 - Moisturise daily
Prevent moisture loss by applying your moisturiser daily to avoid your skin becoming dry, flaky and dehydrated. Moisturising is especially important in cooler weather or when humidity is low.
Oily skin
PCA Skin Clearskin moisturiser contains niacinamide to regulate oil production and borage seed oil to reduce redness.
Normal skin
Packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients to hydrate and protect the skin, Aspect Dr Resveratrol Moisturising Cream will reduce the appearance of fine lines and protect skin from environmental and sun damage.
Dry or dehydrated skin
Biopelle Tensage Advanced Cream Moisturiser is extra emollient to provide additional hydration for dry and mature skin types.
Number 4 - Sunscreen is non-negotiable!
Sunscreen is absolutely a non-negotiable when it comes to your skin and health. Used daily it helps prevent sunburn, skin cancer and premature ageing.
Oily skin
SkinCeuticals Ultra Facial Defense provides very high UVA/UVB protection and is rated SPF50. An oil free sunscreen that won't block your pores.
Normal skin
A broad-spectrum SPF50 sunscreen with a dry touch finish and 4 hours water resistance. Aspect Sun Envirostat also contains Aloe Vera and Vitamin E to nourish your skin whilst protecting it from harsh UV rays.
Cosmedix Hydrate+ is an SPF which doubles as a moisturiser. This sunscreen gives you a dewy, radiant-looking glow that will have you excited about applying sunscreen in no time.
Number 5 - Retinoids
Retinoids, or Vitamin A, should be included in all skin care regimes from your mid 20's or early 30's. Vitamin A increases cell turnover and stimulates collagen production to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Vitamin A can also help acne, fade age spots and soften rough patches of skin.
Oily skin
Control problematic skin, clarify clogged pores and control breakouts with Cosmedix Clarity. Retinol and salicylic acid work together to help exfoliate and purify skin to help prevent the appearance of blemishes.
Deramceutic Activ Retinol 0.5 contains 0.5% Retinol and 1% Vitamins C and E. This vitamin A serum also contains added ceramides to help to firm and plump while Panthenol deeply hydrates to leave your skin looking smoother and more radiant.
